Water Cooling System - Oil Refinery
SOTO designed a reliable water cooling system, with significant large pipe work, for an oil refinery in the Middle East
3D modeling and finite element analysis were used to integrate the water cooling and pipe work design within an existing plant design
Achievements:
- 3D modeling of all pipes, racks, cable trays and trenches which identified and provided solutions for integration with existing design
- Pipe expansion loops were optimized cost-effectively
- Electrical instrumentation control systems modeled to meet Mapena standards
- Minimised overall plant risk through increased performance and reliability of water cooling system
Scope:
- 3D modeling of all pipes, racks, cable trays and trenches interfacing with OEM equipment (eg condesners/evaporators) using Solidworks
- Detailed pipe stress analysis
- Verification of pipe support racks
- Pumping motor design for 315 kW pumps, to cater for direct on line (DOL) pump starts
- Design catered for pipe thermal growth
- Used finite element analysis (Strand 7)
- Electrical instrumentation control systems modeled space cable racks and trenches to meet Mapena standards
- Large pipe work, with 28” diameter
- Overall project value $42m
